Because my memory has been less than spectacular, I need this blog to remember ……………….. things I did today. Or plan to do someday. Or want to remember one day.

Father’s Day and Fete dela Musique Ramblings

Happy Father’s Day to all the cool dads out there … of course this does not include those irresponsible little pricks who lost control and ran away after leaving their idiotic sperm cells as souvenirs to unprepared members of the female species (did I just hear someone say Ouch?)

Here are some inspiring Father’s Day stories today, courtesy of the country’s best news website of course =)

  1. ‘Ang tatay kong nanay’ – inspiration for gay dads out there
  2. ‘Pop and Mom all in one’ – for single dads out there
  3. ‘Young dad, cool dad’ – for young dads out there
  4. Fatherhood as a Widower’s Art – for widowers out there
  5. My dad, the homemaker – for housebands out there
  6. Wicked Stepdad He Aint – inspiration for stepdads out there
  7. ‘Our kind-hearted, selfless father’ – kids write about their father who had to take his own life to save them – ay sayang… seems like my favorite news site didn’t carry this particular article online… if you have the paper version, try to read it… it’s really very sad…

If you ever get the chance, I highly recommend Francois Ozon’s 8 Femmes…I watched this twice during the French Film Festival about 3 years ago and I still think about the film alot. I liked it very much and I appreciated my grandpa so much more after seeing this film (did I mention that my grandpa is the bestest dad in the world? love you pops =)…Anyhow, 8 Femmes, for me, is the ultimate Father’s day movie…of course some people might disagree with me, but this is just my opinion and my blog by the way =)

Speaking of French…the Fete dela Musique has been one of my most awaited events for the past 3 years already and this year’s  musical festival, held last night at the El Pueblo, was certainly a huge hit. (Thank God that it did not rain like it did last year when it practically *poured* out there drenching thousands of music lovers, damaging a lot of the sound equipment and even causing one of the main stages to collapse! [imagine all the jologs scampering for cover! …I was one of them =) Anyways, going back to last night, I arrived at the scene with my school friends as early as 4pm yesterday (eager beavers, aren’t we? But I did see a lot of familiar faces from phphoto who were there as early as we were =)

Anyhow, we went straight to Pasto because I was hungry and hadn’t had breakfast nor lunch yet and that’s where I bumped into one of my blog’s readers, no less than Electronica Manila’s founder SilverFilter / Cyril Sorongon (Hi Cy! =) …turns out that Pasto was Electronica’s headquarters for the fete so we stayed there for some time before heading out to the Podium to Benj_mei_me catch Benj’s cousin’s band Nancy Drool….too bad I missed Nancy Drool though because I had to go to Watson’s to buy some bandaid coz my girly shoes were killing me (I knew I should have just worn my trusty rubber tsinelas!) …anyways, I did get out of the mall in time to watch Pinoy Stories perform and all I can say is that they rock  =) This picture was taken in the middle of their performance ….that’s Mei and me posing for the camera…Benj did not want to smile for the camera because according to him, “may model ba na ngumingiti sa cam?”…ok fine Benj! =)

Walking back to the main venue, we watched World Music performers Nityalila do their thing as Nityalila_dancers a male and female dancer meaningfully interpreted their Blusang Itim song…. We got to the Rock stage in time to see the vocalist of Shards of Ice introducing the band before their performance…the rocker had a certain English accent and I wasn’t sure if they were a foreign band…. He also seemed so happy and excited before the crowd – something very unusual of a rock band member who one would expect to be  cold, mechanically aloof and just plain headbangin’ …it was only hours later that the reason for their enthusiasm became apparent… a friend told me that the members of Shards of Ice were very, very young (they were more or less 15 years old?!)  …no wonder their excitement to perform was so obvious! Now that’s cute =)

Punks_ng_antipolo_dawIf there was one thing that really caught my attention and made me unable to control my laughter and hide my disgust, it would be those stupid, kulang sa pansin skwaters who went the extra mile to be totally skwating during Shards of Ice’s serious performance…. these jologs who called themselves “PUNKS NG ANTIPOLO” formed a circle and started jumping around, headbanging and basically just tried to upstage Shards of Ice with their epal eksena movements. In the middle of the frenzy stood one punk who had a punk seated on his shoulders carrying a huge-ass sign that screamed “PUNKS NG ANTIPOLO”…how’s that for jolography? I don’t usually judge or look down on people but putek, these people were asking for it, sobrang kulang sa pansin…

Anyways, we headed back to the Live Electronica HQ at Pasto were we met up with other friends and just chilled there for a couple of hours with Daydream Cycle, Drip, Morse and Silver Filter playing their magic …looking back, Electronica Manila has certainly come a long way since I was introduced to the genre at my first fete 3 years ago… I remember how they did not even have a decent venue to play in back then…the group just set up their stuff inside a dark and abandoned restaurant that had gone out of business months before that so there were no lights nor seats of any kind …back then, we had to feel our way through the dark place and just settle on the dusty floor with our beers and cigarettes to enjoy the show…they did so well that night because they used their creativity and the complete darkness to their advantage by  showing off some fancy techno graphics on one of the bare walls through an LCD projector as they spun their music. It was really cool =)…

Me_tats_karlaAnyhow, going back to last night… it was a fun night despite the huge sticky crowd…my only regret was that I missed Imago’s and Hale’s performances …I was really looking forward to watching Imago sing their Akap song and Hale sing their Broken Sonnet but I lost track of time at that very particular time because I was caught between friends and between staying or leaving for another event…then I realized too late, tapos na pala sila…*sigh*….sayang talaga to think I was waiting the whole night for their turn to perform…

Ok I’m getting bored with this post na and I’m just rambling here…so I should end this na muna before I bore you to death too =)

Sana nagkita tayo! Went there at around 1030pm with friends from UPM. I think I saw that Punks from Antipolo group. Wanted to watch Narda, (my co-teacher’s band) kaso inaantok na ako kaya hanggang Barbie’s Cradle nalang sa Podium. I’m getting old for this.:) Pero ang cute pa rin ni Barbie.:)
